Time for a new release!

Fixes

Due to some eBay changes, I’ve fixed the following:

eBay Spain now works again

sometimes the final result on a page would be missed – now fixed

New features

There are two new features.

Results displayed as they’re downloaded

Up until now, whenever you’ve clicked “Get auctions”, you’ve had to wait for all the pages of results to download before any of them displayed.

Not any more!

Now, results are displayed as they’re downloaded, so you can start going through the list immediately. This is a great time saver.

Here I’ve started retrieving results for the ancient coins category. The first 100 out of 27900 results in total have been downloaded and are already being displayed.

You can do all the normal stuff you’d expect, click to View an item in your browser, create Trash words, etc while the rest of the results download.

Now, for the most part this works great, especially when your list is sorted by Time left. However if you have a different sort order, the results may feel like they’re jumping around too much. If you don’t like that, you can turn the feature off. Go to Tools->Options…->Sieve Actions tab and turn off “Display results while downloading” as shown here:

This feature is a stepping stone to one of the most requested features – automatic periodic refreshing. It’s coming…

Default browser on Linux

AuctionSieve on Linux could do with a bit of improvement. To that end, AuctionSieve now attempts to use your default browser. No more fiddling with command line environment variables.

For this to be used a number of requirements must be met – nothing too unusual:

You must be running Java 6 – which should be the default on all versions of Linux by now – if not, upgrade – it’s faster and better

You must be running with Gnome libraries

You must have the following options turned off in Tools->Options…->Browser tab

Let me know if you have any problems.

Onward to auto-refresh!

A quick note on updates.

If you’re running AuctionSieve on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, when you try to download an update you may get an error that looks like this:

This is a permissions problem.

You need to run AuctionSieve as an Administrator so the update can be downloaded and applied.

Simply right-click on the AuctionSieve icon and select Run as administrator, as shown here:

You’ll now be able to download the update.

After that’s done, just run AuctionSieve as per usual.

Hi everyone!

After some beta testing, it’s time for a new release – this time with some fixes and new features.

Fixes

Due to some eBay changes, I’ve fixed the following:

incorrect bids in Ended Watchlist items

incorrect time left and prices in Watchlist

New features

These are a number of things people have requested.

New Time frames and Free Shipping

The first couple are extra search options:

New time frames – 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes – helpful for those searches with zillions of results – just retrieve those that are ending in the next 5 minutes.

Free shipping option – don’t want to be caught out by large shipping costs? Choose this option! Note that this will return items that provide free shipping to at least one location, so it may not necessarily be free to you – for example, a search on eBay US will return items that provide free shipping to US addresses but may charge for shipping outside the US.

Here’s a screenshot showing where these options are

Remove button in Price History Search

Next feature has been requested by a few people – the ability to remove items from the Price History via the Price History Search panel. This appears at the bottom of the Price History and Watchlist tabs. Currently, it can be tedious to select a range of items in the Price History to delete. With this new feature, you can highlight some common text in the items so they appear in the Price History Search results. Then click the checkbox in the column heading to select them all and click on Remove as shown:

Too many pages warning

By default, if you perform a search that will return more than 500 pages of results (ie more than 2500 items), AuctionSieve will throw up a warning asking if you want to continue. If you routinely do these large searches and find the warning annoying, you can now turn it off. Go to Tools->Options…->Sieve Actions tab and click on the option shown:

I hope you enjoy these new time saving features!

Want some help in using AuctionSieve?

You’ve come to the right place.

Welcome to our new site and blog!

What can you expect from this blog?

Over time, I’ll be posting

How-To guides with screen-shots which walk through the many features in AuctionSieve

New release information

eBay and collector related tips

General interest posts about running a small software company like mine

Where is AuctionSieve going?

AuctionSieve is a part time activity for me but I’m in it for the long haul. I have a list of feature requests longer than my arm. While new features may take a while, I try my best to respond quickly to any sort of problem.

I believe in constant steady improvement. This new website and blog is one example of that.

Many people have requested better help information. By doing this site redesign, creating a blog, and investigating tools to create the Tour, I’m now in a place where I can provide that help. And do it in an efficient, hopefully fun way that reaches the most people.

Onward!
