1. I'd like to see which search is responsible for a certain result. Sometimes I get too many results from a seive and I want to see which search is responsible for that. Maybe each search should get a number for this purpose.
2. A way to make an overall change for all searches within a seive. Like for example changing the category number to search in. Now I have to change it for each search individually. I'd like to be able to do this at once for all searches.

They both sound like good ideas.

Definitely seconded. I've asked for this very feature before - it would make a real difference to how usable AS is and how maintainable sieves are.

Why? We all know we get search "creep". You come up with a great search that finds only what you are looking for. But after a while, a combination of keyword spammers and new products with similar names means the search results "drift", and you get lots of meaningless junk in your sieve. Not really an issue with only 1 search, but I have sieves with over 160, and there it's a total pain in the backside to find the one search that is "leaking".

Got any ideas about what should be displayed?

Given a sieve with the searches:
1. dungeons dragons minifigs
2. dungeons dragons lost shrine tamoachan
3. etc

The simplest thing would be for me to display the number of the search in a new column - eg "2"

Alternatively a column with the search term - eg "dungeons dragons minifigs"

Another alternative, display the column number and if you mouse over, a tooltip pops up with the search term.

Or no extra column, but mouse over tooltip on another column (this may be annoying).

Some other mechanism?

One other thing to keep in mind - an item can be the result of multiple searches, so should it display, for example, "1,3"

Just the search number is fine by me - provided when I look in the sieve options, there's a corresponding number beside each search. The search term as a mouse over tooltip is no more than a nice-to-have.

I'd be quite happy if the number was overwritten with the most recent search that generated it, but if 1,3 etc is possible that would be fantastic. My worry would be that you have a lot of searches in a sieve (like my 160!) and potentially half those searches could generate the junk result!

One thing I would add, is a tickbox in the options (for those people who don't want another column in their sieve results) to turn this on/off is probably a must have.

Can't promise any timeframe... Sad
Having said that it shouldn't be too hard...
I've added a card to Trello:

Hi Nev,

I noticed you're adding new ideas to Trello - so maybe you've got a bit of time to devote to AS at the moment...

This idea (card) is still sat there, with 2 votes - and you said yourself it shouldn't be too hard - if there's any chance you could get to this one please, it would really make a difference to how usable (and maintainable) AS is for me...

Thanks for reading Wink
Andrew

Thank you Nev for implementing this - it will make a real difference to both keeping sieves clean and also to debugging issues - as we can now be certain which sieve generated a bad result.

Again - Thank you! Very Happy
