Problem solved. I don't know whether this was reported elsewhere or FAQ'd...

I was trying to get another Java app to run today and it behaved similarly to AuctionSieve. I emailed the developed. He told me to ensure the app was placed in the Applications folder. That solved the problem.

I then put the AuctionSieve Installer in the Applications folder and it worked.

Phew!

Just wanted to follow-up Welsh Baloney - I experimented with my Java problem by downloading and installing all of the Java 4 updates on the page Neville linked to at Apple after 1.4.2 - I think I had to do 3. I then tried to install Java 5 & it was still no-go, with the same error message, BUT I tried re-installing AuctionSieve as outlined above (putting the installer in the Apps file) and that did the trick. Yay! So it's now working just great. I suppose all this Java nonsense will get all straightened out by the time I get Leopard, which I doubt I'll do before the fall anyway (assuming a spring/early summer release). And then will I have to get an Intel machine? Hmmm . . .

Anyway, thanks all! And thanks, Neville - I'm sure you'll have fun with the program this year, with OS updates on both Mac AND PC!!! Shocked
