Hi Nev, Hi all

Doing a search for the item GOBO on Ebay uk TODAY, took 16 minutes,
returned 91 pages and 3927 items. There are 40 words in my TRASH WORDS list.

Among that trash;
CCTV;83 hits
CD 295 hits
DVD 121 hits
GPS 30 hits
IPOD 616 hits
MP3 438 hits
MP4 135 hits
STERIO 51 hits
USB 79 hits

Adding the above words, (those with the highest number of hits), to the exclusion area and running the search again (after a reboot) gives 15 pages, 716 items, and a search time of 2 mins! 8 times faster!!!

In the TRASH WORDS area of the screen (bottom right on my setup) if there was another column, with the number of instances the trash word appeared (that information is already shown in the temporary work area when you highlight a trash word) A descending sort on the highest number of trash word hits would show if there was a word or words that could be manually added to the SEARCH OPTIONS; WORDS TO EXCLUDE.

The only downside I can think of with this system is that the search you are about to perform would have the TRASH words taken from the results of the last search. While the number of trash word hits is bound to vary day to day, in the above example, I'm fairly sure that there will always be more hits on IPOD than on GPS.

What would be really cool would be a button to take the top X number of TRASH WORDS and automatically add them to WORDS TO EXCLUDE area.

What would be HYPER cool would be for the program to find the most common words and display them and the number of instances and for the user to decide if they are TRASH or CATCH or neither!

If like me you don't have too much in the WORDS TO EXCLUDE area, you might try playing with this idea.

Enjoy

Excellent idea Max!
I'd encourage everyone to do the same.

Displaying the count is an idea that's on the current feature request list (but it's a bit hard to find/obscure) as R5 and R6 :

Hi Nev
Yes, now you point at it, I see it! Smile R5 and R6 it is.

On their own, they are good features to add, but tied into the
"WORDS TO EXCLUDE" entry they would make a huge difference to the time taken to do ANY and every search!

I've done it on all my searches now and what used to take an hour or so now takes just minutes. I've seen 15 and 20 times quicker searches too.

Would you consider adding another feature request? Namely the full word search and count I mentioned in the previous post as the Hyper cool option?

One final question, is there a way to get ALL the words from a completed sieve search out and into a text editior so I can experiment with the possible speed improvements it would potentially give?

thanks
Max

Yeah, that would be hyper cool to show all the most common words such that you could mark them as catch or trash.

In one sense it's quite easy to do - ie going through all the titles and collating and counting the words. The tricky bit is the interface.

I'll have a think about it...

Would it work to extend the existing functionality of the interface?

Having it available in much the same way as the OPTIONS tag works? a sort of "OPTIONS 2" tab?

Would it also be four choices for each word?
CATCH, TRASH, EXCLUDE and the default, IGNORE??

What would EXCLUDE do?

Take the word and automatically add it into the WORDS TO EXCLUDE box under the OPTIONS tab...
