Hi,

I have a problem with AuctionSieve which causes that I cannot use it since many versions (at least 2.7.5).
Updating the program through the built in updater didn't work. Therefore I completely uninstalled the older version today and installed 2.7.9 (AuctionSieveSetup-Jre.exe).
I copied in all the existing .sieve files from the Documents folder for which I had made a backup earlier.

The error I get for all my sieves (on ebay.de, also tried ebay.com) is:

Quote:
Failed to connect to ebay for "Search [Sieve name]". Perhaps try again later.
java.io.IOException: Invalid Http response

Rarely it's also:
java.io.IOException: missing CR
java.io.IOException: Bogus chunk size

After four of these error messages I get:

Quote:
eBay is returning error pages or pages I can't interpret, for Search [Sieve name] (they may have changed their pages - email me if the problem persists). Do you want to keep trying?

I appreciate any help to get this annoying error fixed.

Hi there,

Are you selecting any extra options in the sieve?

If you create a new sieve and don't change anything from defaults and just put in a search term, eg "wizardry", does that work?

Thanks for your quick response!

I did exactly what you suggested, but no, unfortunately this brought up the same error messages.
(search is on ebay.de)

Ok, very odd.

Everything seems to be working fine for me.

To help diagnose the problem, please zip up all the files in the directory or folder appropriate for your operating system:
http://www.auctionsieve.com/support/faq/#backup_windows
http://www.auctionsieve.com/support/faq/#backup_mac

In particular, there's also a tmp folder in that location - include that in the zip and I can see what AuctionSieve is receiving from its request to eBay.

I just sent you the files via PM download link.

Please note that this is my backup from the old version (2.7.7)

The new folder for 2.7.9 has nothing in the tmp folder yet.

I just copied over the .sieve files when I installed 2.7.9 yesterday (not e.g. the auctionsieve.properties file)

Thanks!

Perhaps copy across your old auctionsieve.properties file.

Do you have a proxy of any sort?

OK, copied it over but it didn't change anything (the tabs are back though)

No proxy here!

I had the opportunity to try AuctionSieve on another PC with a fresh install and my sieve files. And it works like a charm, as it should.

So, it's not AuctionSieve itself and not my Sieve files?
What else could it be?

It could be something to do with permissions - ie whether your user account has access to the folder and files.

Thanks for the tip.

I tried it in the Windows administrator account (if that is what you meant) but still no change, the same error message pop up. :/

This is really rather strange.

I've had a look at the tmp folder in your zip file and the files look ok (they're copies of the eBay html pages that AuctionSieve downloads) - no errors.

Also, I copied your folder into my AuctionSieve data directory and ran it just fine - got results for the sieves. Nice bunch of searches btw! Had to stop myself from looking at all the vintage game results....

The only thing I can suggest is to
- uninstall
- make sure the data directory is deleted
- reinstall
- try creating a one sieve to see if that works
- then copy the sieve files over again and see if it works

Thanks, I'll get back to this but are really busy with work right now.

Thanks also for the comments re the sieves... I already appreciated that you suggested "Wizardry" as search term earlier. Very Happy
