|
|
Hi everybody
I just installed AS 2.5.0 and all is working well.
But.....
I'm using AS on a laptop and I would like to replace is to another PC.
Can somebody tell me the best way to do this?
I would like to use the same sieves on the (new) PC as I'm using on my laptop.
Kindest regards for your help.

Hi Harry,
All your AS data is stored here :
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\AuctionSieve
Windows Vista & 7:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\AuctionSieve
Mac (I knw you're not on a mac but for reference for others who come across this post):
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AuctionSieve
Just copy that directory over to the same place on your other computer! |

Thanks. I tried this but it didn't work. Copied the folder from the old XP location to the new Win7 location as you suggested. Old sieves didn't appear in the new computer. BTW, I noticed that the new version didn't already have an AuctionSieve folder in the App data area... is that a hint as to what's up? Thanks. |

Ok, I'm not quite sure, but I'm going to assume :
1. You've installed AuctionSieve on the Win7 machine
2. You've run it at least once
If that's the case, then there should be an AuctionSieve directory in that location. Perhaps do a search on your drive for a directory called AuctionSieve (probably doing a search under the C:\Users directory will be sufficient). |

Right, I installed the program on a windows 7 machine. I ran it a couple of times, and created a test sieve. I notice that there is an AuctionSieve directory in the following path:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Hashbang\AuctionSieve
The path under Users was a bit different than you described, and looked like:
c:\Users\gordonvs\AppData\Roaming
under which there was no folder called "AuctionSieve". I tried creating one by copying the entire one from the old XP installation (which has the sieves I want to keep). That didn't work. I also tried copying the contents to the AuctionSieve folder mentioned above, that didn't work either.
When I say "didn't work", I mean the program still ran, but my old sieves didn't appear on the new machine. |

Hmmm, curious.
Ok, try this.
Run AuctionSieve
Select Tools->Options...->Advanced tab
Is the option "Store sieves and settings..." checked or unchecked?
Then go to the Browser tab (still in the Options... dialog), copy the text in the box at the bottom and paste it here. |

unchecked.
"copy" didn't work for the text in the box.
But browsing it makes me wonder if it's looking in a server for the files.
Some of them point exactly to the path I gave in my previous post, some of them are going off to a local server I'm attached to.
Right now I'm just going ahead and rebuilding my queries. In the process I improved some of them slightly, so it is probably good in the long run that it didn't work |

I'd still like to figure out what's happening.
To copy the text in the Browser tab, click in the text area, hit Ctrl-A to select it all and then hit Ctrl-C to copy it. |

Ok,I was trying right-click which didn't work, but ctrl-C did.

Ok Scott!
From that info, it appears the directory you need is:
\\hades\redirect\gordonvs\AppData\Roaming\AuctionSieve
Look in there and you should see all the .sieve files etc. |
