Hi Nev,
2.5.6.2 was good for a while, but there's another problem just surfacing...
Some auctions now come up in the sieves with the price as (£) with no digits, and the time remaining is incorrect (e.g. 9989d 23h 15m or Ended). Examples are:
370550635688
290619962667
170712623734
120761226323
110727242327
120761227264
110727248843
120761320378
110727262666
220874732523
110727362428
120761373368
120761338036
110727446612
120761317567
...and many more.
As before if I add them to my watch list the time left and price corrects themselves - but the price is shown as GBP 9.99 (£) - the (£) shouldn't be there.
I've also noticed AS doesn't cope with the new longer item titles, they get truncated which means trash words/catch words can't work on the bit of the title that has been cut off.
Examples are:
190588484980 ("B" replaced by "...")
110758600262 ("VERY WITH BOEING 747 SCA" replaced by "...")
250910882831 (":72 von Tamiya" replaced by "...")
250910929832 ("elware) 1:72 von Tamiya" replaced by "...")
250910930365 ("e) 1:72 von Tamiya" replaced by "...")
320775749700 ("ORT, Item No:87KFB60S" replaced by "...")
...and again there are many more.
Best Regards
Andrew |

I am seeing the same some auctions have blank for price some ($) and lots with unknown in the time left field. Why do they keep changing so often? Thank you. |

I just added a new sieve, about 1/3rd of the results are affected by the (£) problem. |

Unfortunately more issues this morning, back to some listings in the sieves with completely blank price fields. Examples are:
400248658293
270837844985
250914988909
250914974162
330629219606
180741824550
120797115075
Kind Regards

If you need test sieves, let me know. I'm happy to test your fix effort on this one.
The latest problem appears to be with auctions that have JUST ended (usually less than 5 minutes before the sieve is run). Perhaps there's a data sync issue with eBay? Such just ended auctions are producing ($) for the pricing data. Also I'm still seeing "Unknown" for the time left (maybe 3-5 times out of a 1,000 auctions) - on auctions that have NOT ended btw. |

Hope you had a good break Nev, sorry you had all this to come back to!

I disagree - most of the auctions I'm finding that have this problem seem to me to be still fully active.

Nev explained this one in a previous thread - for some BIN items, ebay no longer reports ending time data - I find these are usually good 'till cancelled ebay shop listings. It's better that AS says "unknown" rather than reports an incorrect time I think!
Unfortunately I find the proportion much higher - maybe as many as 1 in 5 in my watchlist say "unknown". But that's just down to the things we're each searching for - some will tend to have more BIN items, some more auctions.
EDIT - note what version I'm using though, I'm on the most recent Beta (2.5.6.2). That might explain the differences we're seeing...
Kind Regards

Hi Nev,
Thank You for 2.5.6.3: the number of incorrectly reported listings seems to be much lower, and I've not seen a single "..." on the end of a truncated auction title, so catch words work properly again.
However I feel really bad - after all your efforts I don't like to report this, but it seems 2.5.6.3 doesn't solve all the problems...

Such just ended auctions are producing ($) for the pricing data. | I seem to be seeing a lot of this now - possibly more than I was with 2.5.6.2. (As I use GBP I see (£) but it's the same thing I believe.)
What seems to be happening is AS thinks the auction has ended at the exact time when it performs the sieve (search), so the time ended that AS reports is low (generally less than 5 minutes because it's only been that long since that search within the sieve completed, but I've also seen ones not ended but <1m when the sieve is running, by the time it finishes they too say "Ended Xm ago"). But it is only AS reporting that the auctions have finished, they've NOT actually finished (all I've checked are definitely still active) - and as usual they seem to be good 'till cancelled shop listings (BIN ones where the real end time can be anything up to 30 days, and if unsold when they "end" the time left counts down from 30 days again). If I add these results from the sieve to my AS Watchlist, the price is picked up correctly and changes, but NOT the end time, it is still reported as "Ended Xm ago". If I close and re-open AS, of course these listings then move from the Watchlist to the Price History.
I'm also still seeing a few of the same old (£) price and silly end time results, e.g. 219129d 23h 50m. As before, when I add these results from the sieve to my AS Watchlist, the time remaining is corrected, and the correct price is found but with an extra (£) left after it e.g. GBP 0.99 (£). The ones of these I've checked seem all to be auctions.
Please let me know if a zipfile of my AS directory would be useful to you!
Kind Regards

Hi Andrew,
So, are all these problems in the Watchlist?
Or are there still some problems with search results?
I haven't looked at the Watchlist code at all so it's very likely to have problems.

Hi Nev,
I'd say the remaining problems are split between the Sieves (search results) and the Watchlist. If I select items in the Sieve that have bad reported data, and then add them to the Watchlist, this sorts out many (but not all) of the problems in the data reported to the user for that item (seen both in the Sieve and the Watchlist - either some data is "copied back" to the Sieve, or they both refer to the same data field in memory).
Sieves:
1) Items coming up with no price (£) and "Ended Xm ago" - when these items have not actually ended. All seem to be BIN, good 'till cancelled shop listings. (I'm suspicious that the data AS is getting from ebay is actually that the item has 60? seconds to go before it's end, as I've seen such items come up with a "<1m" time as the sieve was running.)
2) Items coming up with no price (£) and rubbish (very long) end times. All seem to be auctions, although not many of these happen in 2.5.6.3.
[From what little programming I know, it feels like a decimal point in the wrong place causing an overflow, which way the overflow goes (+ve or -ve limit) causing either a very short or very long end time to be wrongly generated. Both symptoms could be down to the same bug?]
Watchlist:
3) When an item with a (£) price is added to the Watchlist, the Watchlist doesn't clear up the erroneous (£) after the correct price. (It might be no fault of the Watchlist code, which could be assuming the item is an auction with BIN, the BIN price being £[empty field], as that was what was handed to the Watchlist in the data from the Sieve.)
4) When an item that the Sieve believes has just ended is added to the Watchlist, the Watchlist doesn't find the correct end time - the data remains as "Ended Xm ago". (It's possible the correct answer should be "Unknown" or "-" as it is now.)
I hope I'm explaining it well enough!
Kind Regards
Andrew |
