Hey guys,
No, Java is not being discontinued.
This is basically a support thing - like how Microsoft discontinued support for Windows XP in 2014 - ie they no longer release security updates for it. Although some variants will still be supported till 2019 for enterprise customers.
Likewise for Java, after December 2020, Oracle will no longer release updates for Java 8 for public users. You'll still be able to use it but it may be open to security vulnerabilities.
That's ok though, because the next versions of Java are available - currently Java 10, with Java 11 coming out in September!
Java 9 had some changes which meant I had to update the installer for Macs. Otherwise, everything should continue to run along just fine. |
