|
|
Some time ago, I saw that there was a new release, and I upgraded to the newer version. From that time onwards, AS simply won't start up. I've reinstalled, did a registry clean, etc.., but no go.
WinXP SP3. What am I doing wrong?
Cheers. |

Which setup did you try from the downloads page?
http://www.auctionsieve.com/download/
The first one (19meg) includes Java and generally seems to be more reliable.
The second one doesn't include Java but sometimes people have problems with it because they have many versions of Java on their system and they're sometimes out of date.
What exactly happens? Does the installer not finish? Does it succeed but when you run it, nothing happens? Any sort of error message or screen? |

Initially I tried the no Java setup. BUT, I first confirmed that I had the latest version of Java (Version 6 Update 20), which I do have. Then the one with Java, just to make sure.
The installer finishes properly. But when I double-click on the icon to start it, I can see some activity on the hard disk - the HDD LED flickers for a while. But then nothing happens - no activity at all. Task Manager also shows no application or process relevant to Auction Sieve.
Thanks for the help. I've grown to rely on this program!
Cheers. |

Hmmmmmmm
If you leave the Task Manager open and sort by Image Name, the process you should see appear is javaw.exe
I see you're on gmail - I'll send a chat request. |

I left Task Manager open, and then tried to start AS. javaw.exe briefly appeared in the Processes window and then disappeared. So that could be the problem? |

Open up a command prompt and run it from there (ie AuctionSieve.exe) and see if any error message comes up.
If that produces nothing of interest, try this:
java -jar auctionsieve.jar |

When I ran AuctionSieve.exe in command line mode, nothing showed up on the screen, but there was "ding" sound, indicating that there could have been an error somewhere.
When I ran the Java command, a black, blank screen showed up very briefly, then nothing. |

Two things
1. Try installing to a different directory
2. Do you have permissions to write here?:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\AuctionSieve |
